Day 4 - The Long Run

An early start was the order of the day with a 67 mile run ahead of Team Lejog. By 8.15am we were on the road - just a few hills to overcome before we hit our first long downhill run of the trip - a mere 18 mile stretch at speed - up to 28 miles per hour!! This helped our daily moving average reach the dizzy heights of 10.2 miles an hour. Not bad going with over 1 1/2 stone loaded into the panniers of each bike.

Lunch was a lovely picnic we bought in a 'local farm shop' in a very 'local' pub. Fortunately the landlady was kind enough to let us eat it in her beer garden.
Unfortunately the flat run turned again into hills and the 1000 foot climb took its toll - another cake and coffee stop was needed at mile 50.
Eventually we reached the Somerset Levels, on the home run to our B&B in Westhay. Although a quick stop at the pub was necessary to purchase some wine and cider for dinner. The cider was very 'local', made only 200 yards down the road and was specially poured into a 1.5 litre vodka bottle for us to 'take away' and enjoy with our dinner at the B&B.

Planned Miles: 67.5
Actual Miles: 68.1 (plus 1 for the pub trip)
Total Miles: 206.4
Punctures: 0
Drink of the Day: 'very local' cloudy Westhay Cider.
